Hi,
First of all, nice to see a blog helping out the enthusiatic entrants straight from the people doing it.
I came to know that there is an aptitude test conducted by SPJIMR, which is another way of taking an entrance into 1 year MBA. Is it so? if so plz let me know the date. i am looking forward to go along with admission this year(PGPM 2010).
it would be helpful if you could provide any other related info.
Thanks in advance for the anticipation.
@ San
there is no such test. The entry criteria is either GMAT or XAT/CAT.
stay tuned to the blog. you can see the admission details here.
Thanks vivek,
But to clarify what is “SPJain Aptitude Test” about then…is it specific to any other course offered by SPJIMR? i saw some blogs saying “can take SPJAT as an alternate for CAT/MAT” plz clarify..
And regarding PGPM2010 calender, is it like by March2009(tentative – application start date) one should be having a CAT/GMAT score by that time ?
@San
SPJAT is for SP Jain Dubai campus. For the 1yr PGPM course CAT/XAT/GMAT scores are accepted by the institute.
PGPM’10 admission calendar will be out soon. Details are being worked out. Keep visiting the blog for more upto date information about the program and the admission calendar
regards
For PGPM’10, By the time the application process starts is it required to have CAT/XAT/GMAT scores ?
Thx n rgds
@San
Submission of Application does not mandate CAT/XAT/GMAT scores.
You have the option of updating them at a later point of time.
Hi,
I would like to know that with 3.5(IT) years of experience by Dec’09, a score of 740+ in GMAT and good academics give me slight chances of getting short listed for PGPM- 2010? Is the 5years+ wrk ex mandatory for selection or the other attributes of the application can override the criteria?
~Thanks in advance
@ Priyanka
Congrats on your good GMAT score. I suggest you wait for the official release from the institue regarding the acceptance criteria. As far as I know, 3.5 years maybe slightly low. In our batch the lowest work experience is around 4.5 years if I recollect. Once the next admission details are released, you could submit your query to the college and check if you are eligible to apply. Hope this answers your query.
Hi,
For Jan10 course, I would apply with XAT 09 score (XAT held on 4 Jan 09).
I have 97.2 percentile but my Quants percentile is 74.8.Does Mumbai campus considers sectional cutoff for one Year MBA as well?
Further I would have a work ex of 4 years and 3 months by Dec09 in IT industry.Does it meet the shortlisting critirea? The shortlisting criteria of SP jain has always been a mystery
Hi Neha,
Part of the answer of your question lies in Vivek’s reply. In our batch min exp is 4.5 years and also the avg. exp has been rising continuously since previous three years. But yes we never know, case to case basis can always be considered in spjimr. There is no harm in giving it a try.
As vivek mentioned, once the admission details for 2010 batch is released, things will be more clear.
Regarding XAT score, I think you have a great score and to my knowledge sectional cut off doesn’t make that much od a diff. We have guys in our batch with around 65-70 %ile in one of the sections.
Hope this answers your queries.
Thanks,
Ashish
Hi all ,
Whats is so different about this course than the regular MBA at S P JAIN ….? (PGPM vs PGDM)
Genuine replies appreciated….
Mohit,
As our marketing prof asks us in a very pertinent way – “Who are you” and “what is your expectation from the course?”
If you need the right answers, ask the right questions.
Hi Mohit,
Please be more specific. ..Like what type of career u r looking after MBA as it depends on many factors like in which field u r working and for how many years …
PGPM is a regular course of S P jain…Please be more specific what u want to know.. ….This would help us to guide u in better way..
Hi folks,
Could any of you share some details on the cutoff scores for candidates who applied through GMAT the previous year 2008-2009?
I intend to evaluate my profile based on the feedback and consider if I would require to retake the GMAT in case I am falling short of the average scores required.
Thanks
Hi Karri,
SPJIMR considers many things other than GMAT score like Extra curricular activities, past academics, contribution to soceity, previous industry experience.
there are chances that u can get call even with GMAT score as low as 600……. there are no cutoff scores as such as far as my knowledge goes…

Hi!
I have work-ex of 9 + years in good MNCs and I have engineering background. But, my GMAT score is not very good (650). Also, I have taken a break (due to some personnel reasons).Would this be considered as a negative point?
thanks,
Madhuri
Hi Madhuri
First, GMAT score of 650 is not bad at all. We have people with close to 600 scores but they still got selected as their overall profile was great. 9+ years of experience is another feather in your cap. You have not mentioned your domain though.
There is one girl in our class too who had taken a break in her career due to personal reasons. It would not be a major point against you. So relax and apply when the dates are announced.

Hi,
Why does the application form at spjain ask for the category (st/sc/obc). are they following reservations?
hi
Could you please email admissionspgpm at spjimr.org and check this? We will also seek clarity on this.
Hi,
Thanks for this initiative.
I have 5 years of experience in software product development.
I have decent acads and pretty good extra curriculars. Heavily into music and writing. Have state level accolades in music, sports and technical paper presentations.
Few years back I scored 99+ percentile in CAT and applied for the 2 years program in SP Jain, but did not receieve a call. I was pretty shocked because given my percentile and well rounded profile, I honestly expected a call.
Later I read an interview with the dean of the institute where he said that SP Jain has certain minimum expectations in all parameters like acads, exp, extra curriculars etc and if someone does not meet the minimum criteria in even one, he or she would never recieve a call.
I have around 80%, 70% and 69% in 10th, 12th and BE respectively. Maybe these modest percentages might be the reason why my candidature was rejected outright. This was the only factor I could think of at that point of time.
This year I have 93% in XAT and want to apply for the 1 year course. First of all is this percentile considerable to give a call?
Also is such academic screening criteria followed for the 1 year course also?
Also being in software product development I have no international experience, will that be something against me?
Why I am asking these questions is that you guys being the alumni of the institute may have insights into the admission process of the college and in case they have such criteria in place I may as well not apply and save some hard earned money.
For example you may know whether or not anyone with 65% in 12th was given admission or was everyone in your batch 80+ percentage scorers throughout?
I think the institute should be transparent if such criteria is in place so that prospective students take an informed decision.
Thanks.
Hi Raj,
well lemme try 2 resolve your queries…
SPJ 1 yr course has slightly different requirements as compared to 2 yr course. In 1 yr course work experience is given the max weightage.
International work ex always gives additional weightage bt tats nt all. Even in India if u have done some really gud work then tat wud be of gr8 value.
Also ur extra curricular is exceptionally gud so i guess u will score well there.
As far as XAT percentile is considered i think its decent enough but if u can improve the score by writing any of the qualifying exam (CAT/XAT/GMAT) then tat would be helpful for u. Since next CAT will be in Nov’09 and XAT in Jan’10 so u cant wait for them. But u can always write GMAT with a target score of 680~720 and apply with that. Nevertheless your XAT score can also fetch at least interview call for u. regarding 10th,12th percentage i dont think they will matter much at this stage. In 2 yr course these things matter as u dont have much work ex/industry exposure.
u can extend your discussion on pagalguy forum as well:

Hey thanks a lot Himanshu. Just couple more queries.
By when I can get a GMAT score and apply? I mean the one year program would have a last date and I need to give GMAT and get a score before that, right?
Next question may not be that important but just curious. How do they map performances of candidates in different exams? I mean say 3 candidates with almost similar profiles have 99%tile in CAT, 99%tile in XAT and 730 in GMAT respectively. How are these candidates compared against each other?
By any chance is a good performance in one of the exams given more preference than a good performance in the other exam?
Hi,
First of all, I want to thank to the people who are behind this blog to help out the entrants.
I have scored 575 in GMAT and have 8+ yrs. of work experience.I am in CSR, corporate communication.
I am interested into PGPM, SPJIMR [1 Year MBA Program].
Am I eligible for PGPM@SPJIMR or I need to score high marks in GMAT. I know 575 is not a good score.
Folks,
The application form seems to allow applicants to provide details only of the last two organisations he/she has worked in – Lates job and Previous job sections under the Work Ex tab.
How do we furnish details if candidates have worked in more than 2 firms?… is this a real issue on the site or am i missing something here
Also the Work ex in months says “As expected to be as on 31st December 2008″.. is exp till Dec 2008 is what is required for the upcoming intake ?
Hi Raj,
Yes you are right that you have to submit the GMAT scores before last date. Most probably last date of online application will be May end (tentative). The college website is under updation and last date information will also be updated there by 1st week of Apr.
Regarding comparison of 3 scores, SPJ gives more weightage to the overall profile of the candidate rather than just the scores. So dont worry on that front. If you have 90 percentile+ in CAT/XAT or 650+ in GMAT then you are on the safer side. If you have less than that but your profile is strong in other areas like previous work ex, past academics, international work ex, extra curricular activities, social work etc then also you can expect a call. In fact if you have 2 scores (say CAT and XAT or GMAT and CAT) then you can submit both the scores. They will take the best of 2.
Hi Chhavi,
Your 8+ work ex will certainly give lot of strength to your profile. But if you can improve upon your GMAT score then that will make you a real strong candidate for the course. I suggest if you can come out with a score of 620~650 then your chances will certainly improve. You can apply for the course now and can write GMAT before last date of the admission form submission and submit the scores. So you have some time to prepare and write the exam once again.
To Karri,
Work ex till Dec’09 will be considered.
Regarding no of jobs in application, i will have to cross check on that. I will come back to you asap on this issue. We are replying to students’ queries on the following link as well:
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/international-indian-mba-schools-accepting/38340-1-yr-pgpm-spjain-student-new-post.html
You can visit the same as well. We will post the answer of your query there also.
Himanshu,
Thanks again, one last qiestion buddy.
Do they consider sectional cutoffs for the one year course? If yes then generally what percentile in CAT or XAT in each section can be considered safe?
To Raj,
As far as I know SP Jain does not follow sectional cut offs. But a decent score in all the sections always helps.
Hi
I will complete 5 yrs of work ex in June 09. I had appeared for CAT and XAT in 2008/2009. Dint have a great outing though with 85 %ile.
Do I hold a chance for PGPM 2010? Also I would like to know if this program hold a good industry weightage. What have been the placements like?
What is the fees? Whats the last date to apply for 2010 batch? How is the admission process like? Wat all points should i keep in mind while applying?
Is a 2 yrs PGDM better than PGPM?
Thanks
Hi,
What is the last date for application for this course?
RKG
I have already replied to your query on pagal guy. Pls refer the same.
Himanshu,
I am trying to fill the online application out, but am still wondering how to furnish my complete experience details.
The Work Experience section only allows for two job details to be entered (Current and Previous).
I have experience with 3 organizations to be submitted.
Please suggest how to resolve this !
/Sudheendra

i suggest you to pls start posting your queries in future on:

Dear SPJ Folks,
Thanks a ton for creating interface like this which is helping us in getting right information about admissions.
I would like to ask about interview calls. I have submitted my application in last week and waiting for the interview call. Please do let me whether institute has sent the call letters.
Thanks,
Truly,
Amol
Dear Hemanshu and fellow alumni. Thanks for wonderul service you are rendering by virtue of this blog.
I intend to apply for 2010 batch of pgpm starting in Jan 10.
My gmat is scheduled for the 26th June and the deadline for
application for the Jan ‘ 10 pgpm course is 30th June.I would like to know if i can apply for same with the gmat score obtained after mytest. You must be well aware that official gmat test report may take upto 2 weeks. My work-ex as on Dec ‘ 09 will be 53 months.
Secondly i have no clue about the online application form format and requirement of reco’s from past / present employers / institute faculty , essays, contents etc.Two months before i made an account for the application form. However i noticed that for going to the second page the first page has to be complete. Is it like this? viz. 1st page lower part has something to say about the personality. So i can i write something on the first page save it go to secong page and later modify the first page.Kindly let me know.this is just intended to have complete readiness before filling up the application form.I would really appreciate if anyone has the format for same and can provide to me.

All your queries are already replied on PG. Kindly visit this thread on Pagal Guy:
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/international-indian-mba-schools-accepting/38340-1-yr-pgpm-spjain-student-19.html
By the way you dont need any recco to apply for this course. Also there are no essays to be written at this stage. Only if you are shortlisted for interview you will be asked to write them. You can very well move to 2nd, 3rd pages w/o completing 1st page. Return back and fill the 1st page later.
For detailed replies, pls visit PG and post your queries there, if any.
Thanks
Hi Himanshu,
Greetings,
Is it necessary to up date the GMAT scores in online application by 30th June 2009 which is the last date of application. OR can we submit it at the time of interview?? In later case, how Admission committee is going to shortlist a candidate without his GMAT score?
Please drop a line.
Thanks,
Amol

Hi,
I am currently working in US. I want to know if it is possible to complete the admission process from US. I plan to travel to India if I am selected for the course.
Thanks,
Rahul
Yes Rahul. You can try and complete the process from US. Even the first round of interview can be telephonic. You should submit the application and if selected try and intimate the college that you are outside india.
I have a GMAT score of 535 and 13+ years of experience in IT Industry. Wondering if this is good for the PGMP. Need inputs
Deepkrish,
Your work experience is amazing. I know that people below GMAT scores of 600 made it to the current batch. So I suggest you apply – you have nothing to loose.
Thanks Vivek.

Hi,
I have been shortlisted for interview for 2010 PGPM,
I will have 5years 4months of IT experience by DEC-09, also I have international exposure.
I went through the admission calendar and found that there will be orientation program for 4-5days in mid sep.
Actually, I have to go on a short term travel on 18th sep from my company. Hence, I am a bit skeptical about the dates.
Could you please help me in this?
Thanks,
Naveen
@ naveen
orientation could happen in october as the whole schedule is now changing….stay tuned for official communication.
I am mechanical engineering graduate having work experience of 23 years in India and Middle East. I am appearing GMAT in the coming opportunity. Is there any age limit which will be a constraint for getting admissio in 1Year MBA program with SPJ. Please enlighten me.
Although there is no upper age limit defined for the course, you Sir would be the most experienced person in the class! So far this course has had a maximum of about 9-10 years experienced people getting enrolled.
Hi SPJ students,
Thanks for this great initiative. I was shortlisted for the PGPM 2010 interviews. And I had submitted my CAT score (89 percentile overall). My question is: When the final offer list is prepared, does the CAT/XAT or GMAT score also comes into play again or is it that the profile and performance in the interviews are the determining factors?
Would really appreciate if you guys can clarify as much as possible.
when will the final result of PGPM 2009 be out?
Please tell me the highest and average placement of PGPM course?
hey guys could you help me please……..i have work experience of 5 years in navigating field as a second officer. I passed out from TS chankaya. Does my profile as a navigating officers impress them as they give priorities to engineers. Please Please reply me soon
